welcome home, starling

Flowering

Flowering

I am teaching myself to open up my soul to

love with a temperance of sorts, I don’t know

how to feel unbound and free-flowing but

maybe I can pour love out with a steady hand

the cacophony of birds keeps me awake when

the fog of winter is dissipating. I think my heart

beating inside ribs that feel like tissue scares me

so greatly that I tighten the confines around it

it’s the roses growing from fractured soil that

remind me, I must bolster up my faltering

heart, I must let it bloom on its own
