Prose & Poetry

welcome home, starling

you are safe now

Cold War

Cold War

we were never far
but our hearts sailed apart
through the sea and thunderous breeze
into a deserted island, dark lush jungle,
always in fear that the bushman will crawl out
from each other's eyes
with spears, with venomous fangs,
with an unspoken curse

this feeling resides deeper than lava in a crater
and our volcanic chest sleeps soundly

we know, we always know
that our hearts run out of love
so we preserve it in a dark steady room
a secret passage in our body
seal it tight, chant the mantra,
a void is pledged in our blood stream
our journey ends in extravagant silence

july, the shade of apple cider

july, the shade of apple cider
